Dr. Jeckyll and Mr. Hyde # 2

Authors Note:  Throughout Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde there was a reoccurring theme of a peaceful calmness before the disturbing attacks of Mr. Hyde.  I tried to incorporate this “calmness before the storm” in a short story of a storm at sea.  I purposely did not complete the ending of the story hoping that they reader will think of their own.

A cool breeze brushed across the faces of the Jenson family as they lay on the bow of their sailboat gazing at the beautiful sunset.  The vibrant colors of the radiant sun glistened throughout the sky giving the clear blue water a reddish purple glow.  The tranquility of the situation stopped time for the Jenson family and brought smiles to their faces.
Docked only a few miles from bay, night was near, and “The General” began its departure back to shore.  Suddenly a strong wind struck the sails of the boat jerking it unpleasantly.   Dark clouds quickly began to form and waves began to slowly rock the boat.  The growing situation surprised all of the Jenson’s and worried expressions crept into their expressions.  Moment s later everything escalated into pure horror and chaos as over 15 foot swells swapped the sides of the boat and as rain flooded the deck.  The screams of the children on board were in no comparison of the cracking thunder and roars of the sea.  Within seconds “The General’s” main mast was split in half and hanging over the edge of the boat.
“Mayday! Mayday!” screamed Tom Jenson as he attempted to make a distress call to the coast Guard.  “We are going down!”
